Antonio Sori’s arrangement of \u201cYou Only Live Twice,\u201d the James Bond classic by John Barry and Leslie Bricusse, is scored for solo voice, five-part vocal ensemble and piano.<\/p>\n
Rather than aiming for the sound of a large traditional choir, this arrangement focuses on the intimate character of a small vocal group. Soprano 1, Soprano 2, Alto, Baritone and Bass create an atmospheric backdrop for the solo voice through sustained \u201cah\u201d textures, rhythmic \u201cdoo\u201d figures, close harmonies and varied accompanying patterns. <\/p>\n
The arrangement draws noticeably on techniques from a cappella, close-harmony and vocal-group arrangements, while incorporating an independent piano accompaniment. As the piece develops, the ensemble voices gradually move beyond their accompanying role and begin to take over parts of the song lyrics. <\/p>\n
The result is a chamber-music-style interpretation that preserves the elegant and mysterious character of the iconic James Bond theme while developing a distinctive vocal ensemble sound of its own.<\/p>\n
This arrangement is particularly well suited to vocal ensembles, smaller pop and jazz choirs, close-harmony groups, chamber choirs and ambitious small vocal groups.<\/p>\n
